Nek5000 Training Course

15 December 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 16 December 2021 @ 5:00 pm GMT

Training Course on Nek5000 – an open-source spectral element-based CFD code to simulate unsteady incompressible fluid flow with thermal and passive scalar transport

Nek5000 (https://nek5000.mcs.anl.gov/) is an open-source spectral element-based computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code that simulates unsteady incompressible fluid flow with thermal and passive scalar transport. It can handle general two- and three-dimensional domains described by isoparametric quad or hex elements. It features state-of-the-art, scalable algorithms that are fast and efficient on platforms ranging from laptops to the world’s fastest computers. Applications span a wide range of fields, including fluid flow, thermal convection, combustion and magnetohydrodynamics. Its user community includes hundreds of scientists and engineers in academia, laboratories and industry.

The course will run for 2 half days split over 2 afternoons (UK GMT Time) comprising a mixture of lectures and tutorials via virtual meetings.

The course is suitable for PhD students, postdocs and engineers with some knowledge in CFD and/or nuclear thermal hydraulics.

The course is free to attend, but spaces are limited to 20. If you plan to attend, please register as soon as possible. Allocation of places is on a first-come, first-served basis.

This course is organised by CCP-NTH (https://ccpnth.ac.uk/).

Prerequisites:

Basic knowledge of (Linux/Fortran) programming and CFD.
